RECENT STUDY SUGGESTS EXERCISE IS EQUAL TO SURGERY FOR ROTATOR CUFF PAIN
July, 8, 2018
A study published in 2013 followed patients with rotator cuff pain over 5 years and compared outcomes of those who had surgery and those who had supervised exercise therapy. At 5 years follow up there was no difference between the groups, meaning surgery and exercise for rotator cuff pain were equally effective. This was the case at all stages from 3 months to 5 years. This study suggests supervised, specific and progressive strengthening of the shoulder girdle can result in excellent outcomes in those with rotator cuff pain.
